Production-ready vehicle-wrap files begin with the correct vehicle, coverage, scale, and output requirements. Use this checklist before handing artwork to Canvas Advertising or another production partner. It reduces preventable revisions, but it does not replace a final production proof or installer review.
1. Identify the exact vehicle
- Record year, make, model, body style, wheelbase, roof height, and relevant upfit details.
- Supply current photos of every side, including doors, handles, hinges, windows, sensors, body damage, and aftermarket equipment.
- Do not assume two vehicles with similar names share the same dimensions.
2. Define coverage before designing
- Confirm full wrap, partial wrap, lettering, spot graphics, replacement panels, or print-only production.
- Identify excluded surfaces and any areas the installer will bridge, trim, or separately panel.
- Confirm whether design, printing, installation, pickup, local delivery, or shipping is included.
3. Build at a documented scale
- Use a reliable vehicle template or verified measurements.
- State the working scale clearly in the file and handoff notes.
- Keep raster resolution appropriate for the final output size and viewing distance.
- Include bleed beyond visible panel edges so normal installation trimming does not expose unprinted gaps.
4. Protect important content
- Keep logos, phone numbers, URLs, QR codes, and required text away from seams, handles, wheel openings, hardware, and extreme curves.
- Check legibility at realistic viewing distance—not only while zoomed in.
- Repeat essential contact information only when it improves clarity.
5. Prepare color deliberately
- Use the production partner's requested color mode and output profile.
- Provide documented brand-color references when color matching matters.
- Request a physical color proof for critical colors; screens are not reliable color proofs.
- Do not promise an exact match across different substrates or production systems without testing.
6. Package fonts, logos, and linked assets
- Supply vector logos when available.
- Outline final display type or package properly licensed fonts when editable text is required.
- Embed or package every linked image and verify that no low-resolution placeholder remains.
7. Separate print, cut, and reference information
- Place artwork, dielines, cut paths, white-ink instructions, and notes on clearly named layers.
- Use the production partner's required spot-color names for cut or specialty paths.
- Mark reference-only elements so they cannot accidentally print.
8. Proof the information
- Verify spelling, phone numbers, URLs, license numbers, legal text, and QR destinations.
- Review every vehicle side and confirm that paired panels align as intended.
- Document the approved version and approver before production.
9. Name and deliver files clearly
- Include client, vehicle, side, version, scale, and date in filenames.
- Remove obsolete versions from the final production package.
- Include a low-resolution reference PDF showing the intended assembled result.
